The Nash Ensemble, described in the Sunday Times as “a unique ensemble at the heart of British music making”, has established itself as an essential component of Bath Mozartfest. Its full-length morning programme begins with one of Mozart’s great series of string quintets with two violas. The group’s former clarinettist Michael Collins, a popular soloist in his own right, makes a guest appearance in the brilliant Quintet for clarinet and strings by Weber. And after the interval he takes his place in the ensemble of mixed wind and strings needed for the Beethoven Septet, which went down well with the Viennese public in 1800 and has delighted audiences ever since.
