For the second leg of his Mozartfest within the Mozartfest, András Schiff is joined by his wife Yuuko Shiokawa in four of Mozart’s sonatas for piano and violin – the complete cycle of which they have performed at the Wigmore Hall in London. Although perhaps not the best known part of Mozart’s output, these sonatas are for the two instruments on which he was a renowned performer, and they are of consistently high quality. This selection includes the unusually stark E minor Sonata of 1778, and the magisterial final sonata of the series, written in 1787 just before Don Giovanni.
