Sonata in D major K576
Rondo in A minor K511
Sonata in C minor K457

The Hungarian-born pianist and conductor András Schiff, a British citizen since 2001 and a perennial favourite in our concert halls, is celebrated for his performances of the music of the classical period: one CD reviewer has praised “the inherent freshness and spontaneity of his playing”. Here he launches a two-concert Mozart celebration with a programme of solo piano music from the composer’s later years in Vienna. The dramatic Fantasia and Sonata in C minor, usually paired, are separated to provide a frame for a diptych of sonata movements, another complete Sonata (Mozart’s last), and the heart-breakingly expressive Rondo in A minor.
