Tim Hugh, who combines the post of principal cellist of the London Symphony Orchestra with an international career as a soloist, is joined for this lunchtime recital by the gifted and versatile Alasdair Beatson, a member of the Kirckman Concerts Society current line-up of solo pianists. They play Beethoven’s early variations on a well-known aria from Mozart’s Magic Flute, the fine Sonata which Mendelssohn wrote for his cellist brother Paul, and Schumann’s lively “Five pieces in folk style”.
