Recently described as “a chamber group beyond compare”, the Nash Ensemble appear this year in a concert highlighting the group’s longest serving member, pianist Ian Brown. He takes the solo part in a concerto which Mozart wrote so that it could be played with orchestra or with solo strings, and the glittering leading role in Schubert’s delightful Trout Quintet. The programme also includes one of the finest of all Haydn’s string quartets, and a youthful, prophetic piano quartet movement which is Mahler’s only surviving chamber work.
