Beethoven String Quartet in F major Op 18 No 1
String Quartet in E flat major Op 74 Harp
String Quartet in C sharp minor Op 131

“The Takács might play this repertoire better than any other quartet in the past or present”, an American critic wrote of the group’s performances of the Beethoven quartets. This full-length all-Beethoven programme consists of the warmly melodic but intricately worked first quartet from the early Op 18 set, the isolated middle-period Op 74, nicknamed Harp because of its passages of collective pizzicato, and from among the late quartets the sublime and searching Op 131 in C sharp minor.
