The multi-award-winning Takács Quartet, recently
described as “at the peak of its powers – at the peak
of its profession”, launches this year’s Mozartfest in fine
style with a concert of string quartet masterpieces.
Mozart’s last D major Quartet, written for the celloplaying
King of Prussia, is flanked by two Beethoven
quartets: the compact and purposeful Op 95, which
the composer characterised as a Quartett serioso;
and the much more expansive and varied Op 130
from Beethoven’s last period.
