Henry Purcell is represented by his well-known birthday Ode for Queen Mary, which includes the famous duet “Sound the trumpet”, and the dramatic final act of his last work for the London theatre, completed by his brother Daniel; Handel by a rapt aria with solo trumpet from a birthday Ode for another English queen, and a familiar psalm setting from his youthful stay in Italy.
